Inspectors Aiming at "Cooperative" Mailings

US Postal Service Inspectors have been reviewing the mailings of many nonprofit organizations -- especially colleges and universities -- in a search for "cooperative mailings."

In particular, the Inspectors have been examining the contractual arrangement between a university seminar program and the seminar speakers. If an instructor's pay or compensation for a program is based upon the number of attendees to the class, then it is considered a "cooperative mailing."

So now is a good time to review all of the materials inside of your Standard A nonprofit mailpiece. If any of the offers for products or services involve a relationship with a commercial enterprise, then double-check the rules on cooperative mailings!

Please contact Mail Services if you need further information.
